Review Methodology

At Big Print World, we review consumer print products with a practical question in mind: if a normal buyer orders this, what are they actually likely to experience?

That means we are not just looking at marketing claims. We are looking at how a product feels, how easy it is to order, what it costs in real terms, how it arrives, and whether we would feel confident recommending it for the use case it is supposed to serve.

Our Core Evaluation Areas

We use a category-aware framework rather than one rigid scoring model for everything. The main factors we consider usually include the following:

Print Quality
We look at image clarity, color quality, text sharpness, consistency, alignment, trimming, finishing, and overall presentation.

Materials And Finish
We consider paper stock, thickness, coating, finish, durability, and how the product feels in hand.

Ordering Experience
We evaluate the website, customization tools, proofing or preview experience, product clarity, and how easy it is for a normal customer to complete an order without confusion.

Price And Value
We look at product pricing, shipping costs, upgrade costs, sample pricing where relevant, and whether the finished result feels worth the total cost.

Shipping, Packaging, And Delivery
We consider production timing, delivery reliability, packaging quality, damage protection, and how well expectations match reality.

Customer Support And Policies
We review support responsiveness, policy clarity, reprint or refund handling where applicable, and how easy it is to get a useful answer when something goes wrong.

Category-Specific Weighting

Not every category should be judged in exactly the same way.

For example, a photo book review may place more emphasis on print quality, binding, paper feel, and editor usability. A holiday card review may give more weight to paper stock, envelopes, design ease, and delivery timing. A poster review may put more emphasis on image sharpness, size accuracy, and packaging.

Because of that, our scoring is guided by the intended use of the product, not by a one-size-fits-all formula.

How Rankings Work

Our rankings are based on our editorial judgment, informed by testing, research, category comparisons, and the strengths and weaknesses of each option.

A company does not have to be the cheapest to rank well. It does not have to be the most customizable, either. In many cases, the best choice is the company that offers the strongest overall mix of quality, usability, value, and reliability for the intended buyer.

We may also name category-specific winners such as:

  • Best Overall
  • Best Budget Pick
  • Best For Premium Quality
  • Best For Beginners
  • Best For Fast Turnaround
  • Best For Design Flexibility

Those labels reflect fit, not just raw score.

What A Review May Be Based On

Depending on the category and availability, a review may include one or more of the following:

  • first-hand test orders
  • sample packs or product samples
  • hands-on use of design tools or order flows
  • packaging and delivery evaluation
  • customer support interactions
  • pricing and policy review
  • side-by-side comparison against relevant alternatives

When a review relies more heavily on research than fresh first-hand ordering, we aim to make that clear.

What We Do Not Do

We do not rank products based only on marketing copy. We do not award favorable placement because a company asked for it. We do not treat affiliate commissions as editorial votes.

We also do not assume that the most expensive option is automatically the best, or that the cheapest option is automatically the best value.

Our Goal

Our goal is not to make every product fit into a neat spreadsheet. Our goal is to help readers understand the real tradeoffs, so they can choose the print service that fits their budget, priorities, timeline, and expectations.
